Shaan
Shantanu Mukherjee began in pop — Loveology with his sister Sagarika, then the solo album Tanha Dil (2000), whose title song became a generation's anthem — and moved into film with Musu Musu Haasi, Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe (Dil Chahta Hai), Jab Se Tere Naina, Chand Sifarish (Filmfare Award) and Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh. He hosted Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for years and is one of the most liked faces of Hindi popular music.

Life
He was born in Khandwa in 1972, the son of the composer Manas Mukherjee, who died when Shaan was thirteen; he and his sister Sagarika sang jingles and cover versions in the late 1980s and recorded pop albums for Magnasound in the 1990s. Tanha Dil made him a solo pop star in 2000, and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam, Vishal-Shekhar and Jatin-Lalit brought him into film: Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Saathiya, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Fanaa (Chand Sifarish), 3 Idiots (Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh), Taare Zameen Par's Kholo Kholo.
He has sung in Bengali, Marathi and other languages, judged and hosted talent shows, and continues to release independent music; he is married to Radhika, with two sons.
The voice
Shaan's voice is light, warm and conversational, with a pop singer's easy phrasing and no classical heaviness — a friendly voice, which is why the songs about friendship (Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe, Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh) sit so well in it.
