Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the nephew and pupil of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the leader of his qawwali party since Nusrat's death in 1997. In Hindi film, from Mann Ki Lagan in Paap (2003), he became the voice composers wanted when a song needed Sufi weight: Jiya Dhadak Dhadak (Kalyug), O Re Piya (Aaja Nachle), Teri Ore, Tere Mast Mast Do Nain (Dabangg), Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji, Zaroori Tha.

Life
He was born in Faisalabad in 1974 into the qawwali family of Fateh Ali Khan; his uncle Nusrat trained him from the age of three and had him on stage from seven. He led the party after 1997 and has toured worldwide; in Hindi film, Pritam and others used him through the 2000s and 2010s, and he won Filmfare Awards for Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji (Ishqiya, 2010) and Zaroori Tha was a non-film hit. His Bollywood work stopped after 2016. He received Pakistan's Pride of Performance and continues to record in Pakistan and perform internationally.
The voice
Rahat's voice is a full, trained qawwal's tenor with enormous breath and the family's characteristic surge on the long held note; in film it was used for the song that climbs rather than the song that whispers.
