Papon
Angaraag Mahanta, known as Papon, is the son of the Assamese folk singers Khagen and Archana Mahanta; he brought the Bihu and the Northeast's folk colour into Hindi film through Jiyein Kyun (Dum Maaro Dum, 2011), Kyon (Barfi!), Moh Moh Ke Dhaage (Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Filmfare Award), Bulleya (Sultan) and Humnava, while leading his band Papon and the East India Company.

Life
He was born in Guwahati in 1975, trained in Assamese folk and Hindustani classical music and the tabla, and formed the East India Company in 2007; his first Assamese album came in 2004. Pritam's Jiyein Kyun and Kyon, Anu Malik's Moh Moh Ke Dhaage (2015), Vishal-Shekhar's Bulleya and Labon Ka Karobaar (Befikre), and Coke Studio and MTV Unplugged appearances made him known across India; he continues to record in Assamese and Hindi and to tour with the band.
The voice
Papon's voice is warm, low and velvety, with a jazz singer's relaxation and an Assamese folk tone that gives his Hindi a soft, rounded colour; Moh Moh Ke Dhaage uses it at its quietest.
