Life
She was born in Rishikesh in 1988 and moved to Delhi as a child; she and her siblings Sonu and Tony sang at religious gatherings. After Indian Idol she sang small songs and the chorus; Second Hand Jawaani (Cocktail, 2012) was the first hit, and Sunny Sunny (Yaariyan), London Thumakda (Queen), Kar Gayi Chull, Kala Chashma, Dilbar (Satyameva Jayate), Aankh Marey, Coca Cola and O Saki Saki (2019) made her the voice of the dance-floor song and the remake. She married the Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh in 2020 and remains a judge on Indian Idol.
The voice
Neha Kakkar's voice is bright, nasal and sharp-edged with a Punjabi-pop punch and a childlike brightness; it cuts through a loud dance track as few voices do.
