Nazia and Zoheb Hassan
Nazia Hassan was fifteen when she sang Aap Jaisa Koi for Feroz Khan's Qurbani (1980) and won a Filmfare Award; a year later her album Disco Deewane with her brother Zoheb, produced by Biddu, sold across Asia and started Indian pop as a market. Boom Boom (Star, 1982), Young Tarang, Hotline and Camera Camera followed; she died of cancer in London at thirty-five.

Life
The Hassans were born in Karachi and grew up in London; Biddu, the Indian-born disco producer, recorded Nazia for Qurbani and then the siblings for Disco Deewane (1981), the first South Asian pop album to top charts outside the subcontinent. They sang for the film Star, released four more albums, hosted Pakistani television, and stopped recording in 1992. Nazia studied law, worked for the UN, and died in 2000; Zoheb lives in London.
The voice
Nazia's was a thin, cool, breathy teenage soprano with an English accent on the Hindi — the newness of it was the point; Zoheb's a light pop tenor.
