Sabri Brothers
Ghulam Farid and Maqbool Ahmed Sabri, the Sabri Brothers of Karachi, were the first qawwals to carry the form abroad — Carnegie Hall in 1975 — and their Bhar Do Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad, Tajdar-e-Haram and Mera Koi Nahin Hai Tere Siwa were the devotional records of South Asia for thirty years; Bollywood borrowed Bhar Do Jholi for Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015.

Life
The family came from Kalyana in East Punjab, of the Sabri Sufi line, and moved to Karachi after 1947; Ghulam Farid formed the party in 1956, Maqbool joined, and their 1958 recording of Mera Koi Nahin Hai Tere Siwa was the first qawwali hit on gramophone. They toured the West from the 1970s. Ghulam Farid died in 1994 and Maqbool in 2011; Amjad Sabri, Ghulam Farid's son, led the party until he was shot dead in Karachi in 2016.
The voice
Ghulam Farid's deep, gravelly, rhythmic lead against Maqbool's high, sweet tenor; the two trading lines over the party's clapping was the Sabri sound.
