Nitin Mukesh
Nitin Mukesh took up his father's work after Mukesh's death in 1976, and sang for Manoj Kumar's Kranti (1981), N. Chandra's Tezaab (1988) and a steady run of films through the 1980s and early 1990s. His voice carried enough of Mukesh's sadness to be welcomed, and enough of his own warmth to be heard on its own; So Gaya Yeh Jahan and Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi are the songs most people know.

Life
He was born in Bombay in 1950, trained in music from childhood, and accompanied his father on the 1976 American tour during which Mukesh died; he finished the remaining concerts. His first film songs came in the early 1970s, and after 1976 Laxmikant-Pyarelal gave him Kranti, Raj Kapoor's camp gave him Henna and later films, and Tezaab's So Gaya Yeh Jahan (1988) was the biggest hit of his career. He also sang for Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharni, Prem, King Uncle and many devotional albums, including a well-known Ramcharitmanas recording.
He continues to perform his father's songs and his own on stage in India and abroad. His son Neil Nitin Mukesh is a film actor.
The voice
Nitin Mukesh's voice is a gentle tenor, lighter and smoother than his father's and without the famous nasal catch, but with the same unhurried, plaintive phrasing. It worked best in the slow song of loss or memory.
