Usha Mangeshkar
Usha Mangeshkar, the youngest of the four sisters, sang less than Lata or Asha but had hits of her own kind: the devotional songs of Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), which played in temples across the country, and Mungda in Inkaar (1977), which played everywhere else. She also sang widely in Marathi, Gujarati and other languages and is a painter.

Life
She was born in Bombay in 1935 and sang her first film songs in the mid-1950s, often in chorus or in duet with her sisters — Aplam Chaplam in Azaad (1955) with Lata was an early hit. Through the 1960s and 1970s she sang second-lead and comic songs, folk numbers and devotional songs: Chanda Ko Dhoondne with Rafi in Jeene Ki Raah, the Jai Santoshi Maa score for C. Arjun, Mungda for Rajesh Roshan, and the title song of Pinjra in Marathi.
She composed for Marathi television and produced a Marathi film, continued to perform with her sisters' family, and received the Maharashtra state's honours; she lives in Mumbai.
The voice
Usha's voice is sweeter and more rounded than Asha's and lower than Lata's, with a folk-singer's bounce that made it right for the village song and the bhajan; Mungda shows the earthy side, Main To Aarti Utaroon the devotional.
