Life
She came to notice as a young singer in the late 1950s and recorded a long series of Bengali modern songs, many with the lyricist Pulak Bandyopadhyay and composer Sudhin Dasgupta.
In Hindi films she sang for composers including Ravindra Jain and R.D. Burman; Do Naina Aur Ek Kahani from Masoom (1983) brought her a National Film Award.
